Sadly, Scotland's Abergeldie Castle looks just about ready to crumble into the River Dee. BBC News reports that John Seton Howard Gordon, the Baron of Abergeldie, and his wife were forced to evacuate the 16th-century tower house in Aberdeenshire on Sunday. Severe floods have been reported across the UK recently. See the drone video footage below for an incredible view of the devastation.

According to the Telegraph, structural engineers say the four-story home could still fall into the river.

The ancient castle sits, for now, about two miles east of Queen Elizabeth's Balmoral estate and was actually rented by the Royal Family at one time. Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's consort, took out a 40-year-lease in 1848. There's been no word so far on the status of the castle's official ghost, a French serving woman named Catherine who was burned for witchcraft at nearby Craig-na-Ban, a rounded granite hill which overlooks Abergeldie. Some outlets are also reporting that Prince Charles's gardens at Birkhall, which neighbors both Abergeldie and Balmoral, are pretty much ruined.

Updated on January 6: Work has begun to keep Abergeldie from toppling over like a house of cards! They've started shoring up that riverbank. The BBC has video. Still no word on the ghost. Stay strong, Catherine!
